| A study between ferritin and insulin resistance and its sex differences in type 2 diabetes mellitus |

Abstract ObjectiveTo investigate the correlation between serum ferritin(SF)and insulin resistance and its sex differences in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods49 patients with T2DM treated in our hospital of department of endocrinology from July 2014 to December 2015 were selected.According to the sex,patients were divided into the male group including 25 patients and the female group including 24 patients.50 healthy subjects receiving physical examination at the same period were included in the control group.Total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride (TG),low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C),high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL-C),C-reactive protein(CRP),HbA1c,fasting insulin(FINS),SF,and fasting plasma glucose(FPG)were detected in various group.ResultsTC,TG,LDL-C,HDL-C,CRP, HbA1c,FBG,FINS,SF,and homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance(HOMA-IR)were significantly higher in the T2DM group than in the control group(P<0.05).SF presented positive correlation with TC,TG,LDL-C,and FBG(P<0.05), and significant positive correlation with HbA1c,HOMA-IR,FINS,and CRP(P<0.01).The correlation between HOMA-IR and SF was higher in male patients than in female patients with T2DM.ConclusionSF is elevated in patients with T2DM,and to some extent correlated with insulin resistance.The correlation between HOMA-IR and SF in male patients is more better.
