| Clinical research of external application of Huangbai Gushang Powder in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis of type qi stagnation and blood stasis |

Abstract Objective To explore the efficacy and safety of Huangbai Gushang Powder as an external application in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA),and enrich the theory of external treatment for KOA using traditional Chinese medicine.Methods From July 2016 to August 2017,100 outpatients and inpatients with KOA treated in Shenzhen Baoan Hospital (Group) of Traditional Chinese Medicine were divided into the treatment group (n=50) and control group (n=50).In the treatment group,oral administration of Aceclofenac Dispersible Tablets combined with external application of Huangbai Gushang Powder was provided,while in the control group,only oral administration of Aceclofenac Dispersible Tablets were used.The effectiveness indexes (serum tumor necrosis factor-alpha,serum interleukin-1,clinical pain score,WOMAC score of knee joint function) and the safety indexes (score of local skin stimulating response score) were compared in patients between the two groups.Results After treatment,the serum tumor necrosis factor-alpha,serum interleukin-1,clinical pain score,WOMAC score of knee joint function,and the score of local skin stimulating response in the treatment group were all superior to those in the control group,and there was a statistical difference (P<0.05).Conclusion External application of Huangbai Gushang Powder in the treatment of KOA has a higher effectiveness and safey,and it is beneficial to treatment and rehabilitation of patients.
