Abstract Objective To investigate the clinical effect and advantages of acupoint catgut embedding in the treatment of hyperlipidemia with abnormal liver function. Methods A total of 78 patients with hyperlipidemia and abnormal liver function who were treated in Dongzhimen Hospital (Tongzhou Branch),Beijing University of Chinese Medicine from June 2017 to June 2020 were selected as the research subjects, and they were divided into observation group (n=39)and control group (n=39) by the random number table method. The observation group was treated with acupoint catgut embedding method, and the control group was treated with oral Xuezhikang Capsules. The efficacy, blood lipid, body weight and liver function indexes of the two groups were compared, and the incidence of adverse reactions in the two groups was compared. Results There was no significant difference in curative effect between the two groups (P>0.05).After treatment, the serum total cholesterol (TC),triacylglycerol (TG),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C),body weight, alanine aminotransferase (ALT),and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in the observation group were lower than those before treatment, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).The TG,body weight,ALT and AST of the observation group were lower than those of the control group after treatment, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).No adverse reactions occurred in the observation group. The incidence of adverse reactions in observation group was lower than that in the control group, with statistical significance (P<0.05).Conclusion In the treatment of patients with hyperlipidemia and abnormal liver function, acupoint catgut embedding and oral administration of Xuezhikang Capsules have a great lipid-lowering effect. However, acupoint embedding is better than oral administration of Xuezhikang Capsules in weight reduction and liver function improvement, and there is no adverse reaction.
