Abstract ObjectiveTo study the value of ultrasonography in the diagnosis of different pathological types of appendicitis.MethodsFrom January to December in 2016,100 appendicitis patients treated in our hospital were selected as the subjects, recruited and received ultrasonography, consisting of 30 simple appendicitis,25 acute gangrenous appendicitis,15 chronic appendicitis, and 30 acute episode of chronic appendicitis. The length, width, and thickness of the wall of the appendix were preoperatively measured by ultrasonic examination, and the characteristics of the ultrasonic examinations among different types of appendicitis were ascertained by inter-group comparisons.ResultsA total of 83 patients were diagnosed with appendicitis. The success rate of ultrasound diagnosis accounted for 83%.There was no statistical difference in the length of appendix among different types of appendicitis using ultrasonography before surgery(P>0.05).The preoperative width of appendix in the acute gangrenous appendicitis was wider than that in the acute simple appendicitis and chronic appendicitis. In addition, there was no significant difference displayed in lymph node enlargerment or masses accompanied in the inner side of lumen in different types of appendicitis (P>0.05).As for indistinct layers of the tube wall and lumen expansion, there were statistical differences in the ultrasonographic images in three types of appendicitis(P>0.05).ConclusionThe use of ultrasound in the detection of the pathological types of appendicitis has a strong diagnostic value. The width of the appendix is important for the identification of acute gangrenous appendicitis and acute simple appendicitis, but the detected value of ultrasound for acute gangrenous appendicitis, acute simple appendicitis, and chronic appendicitis is very limited.
