Abstract Objective To understand the needs of patients with ischemic stroke in Yangjiang urban area for continuing nursing services. Methods A total of 166 hospitalized patients with ischemic stroke in the Yangjiang People′s Hospital in Guangdong Province from June 2017 to November 2018 were selected as the research subjects.Patient for continuous nursing service demand scale and Barthel index score were used to evaluate patient′s needs and the ability of daily living (ADL),respectively. The correlation between the needs for continuous nursing service in ischemic stroke patients and the ability of ADL were analyzed. Results ①Continuous nursing needs of patients with ischemic stroke showed that the highest demand rate of patients for self-care services was 96.39%,and the demand score was (9.26±1.27) points. The lowest demand rate of health education and nursing services was 69.28%,and the demand score was (11.43±1.90)points.②With regards to the Barthel index score, the ADL scores at 1,3,and 6 months after discharge were higher than those at discharge, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).③Correlation showed that the patient′s demand for continuous nursing services at discharge had no correlation with the ability of ADL (r=-0.154,P>0.05).④The patient′s demand for continuous nursing services at 1,3,and 6 months after discharge were positively correlated with the ability of ADL (r=0.236,0.167,0.221;P<0.05).Conclusion Patients with ischemic stroke in the urban area of Yangjiang City generally have a higher demand for continuous nursing service after discharge.Practice has proved that continuous nursing service can significantly improve patients′ self-care ability and ADL,and promote patients′ recovery as soon as possible.
