Effectiveness of application of epidemic surveillance in prevention and control of major infectious diseases |

Abstract Objective To explore the effectiveness and value of epidemic monitoring in the prevention and control of major infectious diseases.Methods Altogether 47 medical and health institutions in Donggang City were selected to analyze the situation before and after the epidemic surveillance strengthened from May 2017 to June 2019.The epidemic surveillance was not strengthened from May 2017 to May 2018,it was strengthened from June 2018 to June 2019.The problems existing in the management of epidemic situation were analyzed before and after the strengthening of epidemic monitoring.The targeted and comprehensive epidemic monitoring work was carried out so as to solve the existing problems.A comparison of various indexes was performed before and after the epidemic monitoring,including the reporting rate of major epidemic situation,the accuracy and completeness in filling out the infectious disease reports,the timeliness from diagnosis to reporting and the satisfactory rate of medical and health institutions.Results The reporting rate of major infectious diseases was 97.87% after strengthening of epidemic surveillance,which was higher than 72.34%prior to the strengthening of epidemic surveillance,with statistical difference (χ2=12.274,P<0.05).The accuracy and completeness rate in filling out the infectious disease reports were 93.62% and 91.49% after the strengthening of epidemic monitoring,which were higher than 63.83% and 70.21% prior to the strengthening of epidemic monitoring,with statistical differences (χ2=14.982,P<0.05;χ2=10.134,P<0.05),respectively.The timeliness from diagnosis to reporting of the epidemic situation was 95.74% after the improvement of epidemic monitoring,which was higher than 57.45% before the strengthening of epidemic monitoring (χ2=18.612,P<0.05).The satisfaction rate of medical and health institutions was 97.87% after the improvement of epidemic monitoring,which was higher than 85.11% before the strengthening of epidemic monitoring (χ2=6.116,P<0.05).Conclusion Strengthening the epidemic monitoring has a positive effect on the prevention and control of infectious diseases.It can reduce the occurrence of infectious diseases,improve the timeliness and accuracy of reporting infectious diseases,provide a reliable guarantee for the prevention and control of major infectious diseases and boost the quality and efficiency of infectious disease prevention and control,which is worthy of promotion and application.
