Meta-analysis of the effect of Compound Methenamin Capsules in the treatment of cough after respiratory infection |

Abstract Objective To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Compound Methenamin Capsules in the treatment of cough after respiratory infection. Methods Databases such as PubMed, Wanfang, CQVIP, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were searched by computer from the establishment to July 3, 2019. The randomized controlled trials involving Compound Methenamin Capsules in the treatment of cough after respiratory infection were included, and Revman 5.3 was used for data analysis. Results There were 9 studies with a total of 1340 patients. Metaanalysis results showed that the total effective rate of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (RR=1.15, 95%CI [1.11, 1.19], P<0.000 01). The cough score of the treatment group after treatment was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (MD=-0.34,95%CI [-0.41, -0.28], P<0.000 01). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence rate of adverse reactions between the two groups (RR=0.73, 95%CI [0.37, 1.47], P=0.38). Conclusion Compound Methenamin Capsules are effective and safe in the treatment of cough after respiratory infection. However, due to the small sample size and low quality of existing studies,more large-sample,high-quality and multi-center clinical studies are needed to confirm it.
