Abstract The main reason of causing failure of chemotherapy and disease recurrence is multidrug resistance (MDR).Because the mechanism of tumor cell MDR action is very complex,traditional Chinese medicine can reverse MDR with multiple targets,multiple pathways,low toxicity and high efficiency.As a drug resistance reversal agent,traditional Chinese medicine has become a hot topic that it enhances the sensitivity of drug-resistant tumor cells to chemotherapeutic drugs.This article reviews the research of the complex mechanism of tumor cell MDR and the reversal of MDR by single traditional Chinese medicine and compound traditional Chinese medicine.
