Abstract:Objective To analyze the blood culture contamination in the first quarter of 2019 in order to increase the qualified rate of clinical blood culture,so that the clinical diagnosis and treatment of bloodstream infection can be carried out more effectively.Methods The total number of blood culture samples (n=6459) and the total number of contaminated bottles (n=42) from January to March in 2019 were collected using the laboratory information system.The monthly contamination rate was calculated based on the data.The contamination in every department was summed up and analyzed,to find the source of highest contamination,and then put forward targeted measures to reduce the contamination rate.Results The contamination rate was 0.69% in January,0.51% in February and 0.71% in March.Coagulase negative Staphylococcus was the main contaminating bacteria,accounting for 69.05%.The highest contamination rate was in ICU,accounting for 42.86%.The total contamination rate in medical and surgical departments was 42.86%,which was similar to that in ICU.Conclusion There are many causes of contamination,and blood culture contamination cannot be ignored.Effectively preventing and reducing contamination is very beneficial to the diagnosis and treatment of clinical blood infections and the application of drugs.It is helpful to guide the clinical treatment to regularly count the contamination rate of samples sent to each department of the hospital.
