Abstract:Calcium and Vitamin D have widely been recommended for older individuals as a basic therapy to prevent osteoporosis and subsequent fractures, but the effect is not very ideal and research conclusion is a lack of consistency. Some studies support the preventive effect of calcium intake for osteoporosis and fractures, but others may not.And it is not yet clear which benefits more,Calcium with or without vitamin D,from dietary or supplementations, with low or high dose. This review analyzes the high grade evidence, such as cohort studies, randomized controlled studies and Meta analysis from recently published literature,to analyse the efficacy of calcium intake, and present some suggestion for the public to make suitable calcium regime.
