Effect of oral Saxagliptin combined with Metformin on the function of islet β cell function and bone metabolism in diabetic patients

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of oral Saxagliptin combined with Metformin on the function of islet β cells and bone metabolism in diabetic patients. Methods A total of 72 diabetic patients admitted to Xinrui Hospital of Xiuwu District in the Wuxi City and the Fourth People′s Hospital of Taizhou from October 2018 to June 2020 were selected as the research subjects. They were divided into the control group and the observation group by random number table method,with 36 cases in each group. Patients in the control group were treated with Metformin,while patients in the observation group were treated with oral Saxagliptin on the basis of the control group. Islet β cell function and bone mineral density (BMD) were compared between the two groups. Results There were no statistically significant differences in early insulin secretion index (EISI),modified beta cell index (MBCI),pre-islet β cell (HOMA-β),area under the curve of C-peptide (AUCcp),area under the curve of insulin (AUCins) and area under the curve of blood glucose(AUCglu) between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment,the levels of EISI,MBCI,HOMA-β,AUCcp and AUCins in the two groups were higher than those before treatment,and the levels of EISI,MBCI,HOMA-β,AUCcp and AUCins in the observation group were higher than those in the control group,the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment,the levels of AUCglu in both groups were lower than those before treatment,and AUCglu level in the observation group was lower than that in the control group,the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in BMD between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment,BMD in both groups were higher than those before treatment,and BMD in the observation group was higher than that in the control group,the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Oral Saxagliptin combined with Metformin has a positive and effective effect on the treatment of diabetes mellitus,which can improve pancreatic β cell function and bone metabolism. It has a certain clinical reference value and is worthy of popularization and application.
