Abstract:Objective To investigate the protective effect of corneal bandage lens after surgery of severe ptosis. Methods A total of 166 patients (248 eyes) with severe ptosis were selected from the Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Center, Shenyang Fourth People′s Hospital from December 2017 to December 2020, who were treated with combination of fascia sheath suspension and levator palpebrae shortening. They were divided into the observation group and the control group by the random number table method, with 83 patients (124 eyes) in each group. The observation group was wearing corneal bandage lens, and the control group was not wearing corneal bandage lens. After a month of follow-up, the corneal staining and postoperative pain were compared between the two groups. Results The corneal staining scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group at 1, 7 and 20 days after surgery, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The visual analogue scale scores in the observation group were lower than those in the control group at 1, 7 and 20 days after surgery, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Corneal bandage lens can significantly relieve the postoperative pain symptoms of patients with ptosis, protect the corneal epithelial defect caused by early postoperative hypophasis or lagophthalmus, avoid the occurrence of postoperative exposure keratitis, and significantly relieve the postoperative discomfort symptoms of patients with ptosis, which is worthy of clinical promotion.
