Abstract:ObjectiveTo compare the effect of orbicularis muscle shortening modified surgery and eyelid skin orbicularis muscle resection in the treatment of senile entropion.MethodsFrom January 2013 to January 2016,60 patients(104 eyes)with lower eyelid entropion in our hospital were selected and divided into the modified group(30 cases,51 eyes)and the resection group (30 cases,53 eyes)according to the different surgical methods. The modified group was treated with orbicularis muscle shortening modified surgery, and the resection group was treated with eyelid skin orbicularis muscle resection.Through follow-up,the short-term and long-term effects(1 year after operation)were compared between the two groups.ResultsThe total effective rate of the modified group was significantly higher than that of the resection group, with significant difference(P<0.05).After a follow-up of 1 year, the long-term cure rate in the modified group was 88.2%(25 cases,45 eyes),which was higher than 75.5%(22 cases,40 eyes)in the resection group, with significant difference(P<0.05).The recurrence rate in the modified group was 11.8%(5 cases,6 eyes),which was lower than 24.5%(8 cases,13 eyes)in the resection group, with significant difference (P<0.05).ConclusionThe effect of orbicularis muscle shortening modified surgery is better than that the eyelid skin orbicularis resection in the treatment of senile entropion.
