| Influence of patients′participation in patient safety pattern on the maintenance of PICC catheter patients |

Abstract ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of patients′participation in patient safety model on the maintenance of PICC catheter patients.Methods50 PICC catheter patients who were hospitalized in Department of Oncology of a GradeⅢA Hospital from January to June in 2015 was selected as the control group,while,50 patients who underwent PICC catheter from July to December in 2015 with willingness to be involved in the maintenance of the catheter were selected as the experiment group.Patients in the control group underwent PICC catheter by intravenous therapy nurse and the primary nurse undertook the responsibility of maintenance and management as well as establishment and maintenance of the archives;on the basis of the control group,patients′participation in patient safety model was added in the experiment group to improve patients′safety awareness of active participation and cooperate with medical staff for catheter maintenance.During intubation,anonymous questionnaire surveys were adopted in two groups to make investigation and analysis,and the incidence of PICC complications of the two groups was observed.ResultsThrough the application of patients′participation in patient safety model,the patients′intention of participation in patient safety of the experiment group was significantly improved,with significant significance(P＜0.01).There was no significsnt significance in PICC complications between the two groups,such as local infection,thrombosis and catheter breakage(P＞0.05).The incidence of PICC complications of the experiment group,such as phlebitis,catheter blockage and catheter prolapse,was significantly lower than that of the control group,with significant difference (P＜0.05).ConclusionApplication of patients′participation in patient safety model can promote patients′intention of safety behavior in involvement in catheter maintenance after PICC catheterization.The nurse and patient work together for catheter maintenance can effectively reduce the incidence of PICC complications and decrease the clinically unplanned extubation.
