Abstract Objective To investigate the relationship between serum vitamin D (VD) levels and severity and age of children with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), so as to provide evidence for the prediction and assessment of the condition of CAP and the supplement of VD. Methods A total of 145 CAP children hospitalized in Chengde Central Hospital from November 2018 to November 2019 were selected as the research objects. According to the severity of the disease, they were divided into mild pneumonia group (100 cases) and severe pneumonia group (45 cases). According to the age, they were divided into infant group (31 cases) and preschool group (114 cases). Serum 25-(OH)D levels were compared in each group. Results The average serum 25-(OH)D level of 145 CAP patients was (23.4±9.0) ng/mL, among which the 25-(OH)D level was normal in 89 cases (61.38%), less in 26 cases (17.93%), deficient in 30 cases(20.69%), and severe deficient in 0 cases. The level of 25-(OH)D in the mild pneumonia group was higher than that in the severe pneumonia group,and the detection rate of 25-(OH)D deficiency(including deficiency)in the severe pneumonia group was higher than that in the mild pneumonia group, and the differences were statistically significant (P＜0.05). The serum level of 25-(OH)D in the infant group was higher than that in the preschool group, and the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05). The level of 25-(OH)D in the infant group with mild pneumonia was higher than that of the preschool group, and the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05). There was no significant difference in serum 25-(OH)D level between the children with severe pneumonia group and the preschool group (P＞0.05). Conclusion The serum VD level of children with severe CAP is lower than that of children with mild CAP, which may be related to age.
