Effect comparison of Oxcarbazepine and Carbamazepine in the treatment of adult partial epilepsy |

Abstract Objective To analyze the effect of Oxcarbazepine and Carbamazepine in the treatment of adult partial epilepsy and its effect on patients′ electroencephalogram. Methods A total of 180 adult patients with partial epilepsy who admitted to the Second Department of Neurology in Liaoning Health Industry Group Iron Coal General Hospital from August 2018 to August 2019 were selected as the research objects and divide into group A and B by random number table method, with 90 cases in each group. The group A was treated with Oxcarbazepine, and the group B was treated with Carbamazepine. Both groups were treated for 6 months. The therapeutic effect, cognitive function, electroencephalogram and side effects were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results The total effective rate in group A was 71.11%, which was higher than 54.44% in group B, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in full scale IQ (FIQ) scores between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the FIQ score of group A was higher than that of group B, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the θ power value of group A was higher than that before treatment, and the difference was statistically significance (P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in α,β and δ power values of group A before and after treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the α power value of group B was lower than that before treatment, the θ power value was higher than that before treatment, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in β and δ power values of group B before and after treatment (P>0.05). The incidence of side effects in group A was 21.11% (19/90), which was lower than 48.89% (44/90) in group B, and the difference was statistically significantly (P<0.05). Conclusion Compared with Carbamazepine, Oxcarbazepine can effectively improve the cognitive function of patients with partial epilepsy in adults,can significantly inhibit epilepsy-like discharge, and has little effect on electroencephalogram background activity and few side effects. It is suitable for clinical application.
