Study on the relationship between serum Hcy, Cys C and hs-CRP levels and IMT thickness in patients with hypertension |

Abstract Objective To investigate the relationship between serum cystatin C (Cys C), homocysteine (Hcy), high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) in patients with hypertension. Methods A total of 124 patients with hypertension admitted to Yangchun Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2019 to April 2020 were selected as the research objects, and they were divided into IMT normal group (37 cases), IMT thickening group (42 cases) and carotid plaque formation group (45 cases) according to IMT. Serum Hcy, Cys C and hs-CRP levels of three groups were compared, the correlation between IMT and serum Hcy, Cys C and hs-CRP levels was analyzed. Results The Hcy, Cys C and hs-CRP levels of carotid plaque formation group were (26.49±2.14) μmol/L,(2.55±0.19) mg/L and (6.04±1.23) mg/L, which were higher than those of IMT thickening group ([18.51±1.48] μmol/L,[1.97±0.14] mg/L, [2.86±0.75] mg/L) and IMT normal group ([11.68±1.23] μmol/L, [0.98±0.09] mg/L, [0.82±0.12] mg/L)respectively, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). IMT was positively correlated with serum Hcy, Cys C and hs-CRP levels (r=0.784, 0.793, 0.811, P<0.05); multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that Hcy, Cys C and hs-CRP were independent risk factors of carotid intimal thickening (P<0.05). Conclusion Serum Hcy, Cys C and hs-CRP levels are positively correlated with IMT in patients with hypertension, and all of them are independent risk factors for carotid intimal thickening. Monitoring the serum Hcy, Cys C and hs-CRP levels can evaluate the condition and prognosis of patients with hypertension.
