Clinical observation of lipid layer changes in diabetic patients with dry eye |

Abstract Objective To determine the lipid layer thickness and its fluctuation and the incomplete blink rate of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM)and non-diabetes.Methods A total of 46 patients with T2DM with 92 eyes were selected as diabetic group,and 45 patients with non-diabetes with 90 eyes were selected as non-diabetic group.Two groups of patients are measured respectively on break-up time(BUT),tear secretion testⅠ (SchimerⅠtest),corneal fluorescein staining(FL),Rapid dry eye assessment questionnaire,the lipid layer thickness by Lipiview ocular surface Interferometry and its volatility and incomplete blink rate and determination.Results The OSDI of the diabetic group was(47.88±17.51)point,which was higher than that of the non-diabetic group (38.76±12.62)point,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The Sit of the diabetic group was(3.88±1.38)mm,which was lower than that of the non-diabetic group(6.17±2.50)mm,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).BUT was(2.89±0.43)s,which was lower than that of the non-diabetic group (4.91±1.54)s,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The staining of the corneal fluorescein score of the diabetic group was(1.97±0.93)score,which was higher than that of the non-diabetic group (1.38±0.62),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The lipid layer thickness of the diabetic group was(45.24±6.22)nm,which was less than that of the non-diabetic group(57.57±6.26)nm,and the lipid layer thickness of the diabetic group was less than that of the non-diabetic group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Diabetic patients are compared with normal patients,which show different degrees of reduction in tear base secretion and lipid layer thickness,that also provide the basis for clinical detection and treatment of diabetic patients.
