Analysis of treatment results of internal fixation with crossed K-wire on olecranon fracture in children |

Abstract Objective To compare the clinical efficacies of crossed K-wire fixation and K-wire combined with tension band internal fixation in the treatment of children′s olecranon and to discuss the surgical indications.Methods A total of 48 children with olecranon fractures treated in our department from January 2014 to December 2015 were selected and divided into the group of K-wire fixation (K-W group) (22 cases) and the group of tension band wiring (TBW group) (26 cases) according to the surgery procedure.The K-W group was treated with open reduction and crossed K-wires fixation and the TBW group was treated with open reduction and tension band wiring fixation.The incision length,the duration of the surgery,the intraoperative blood loss,the duration of immobilization,postoperative complications,and elbow function evaluation were compared between the two groups.Results The incision length in the of K-W group was shorter than that in the TBW group,duration of surgery and cast immobilization,intraoperative blood loss in the K-W group were losser than that in the TBW group,postoperative complications in the K-W group was lower than that in the TBW group,duration of the surgery and the duration of immobilization was shorter than that in the TBW group,which had significant differences(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in elbow function evaluation between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The use of crossed K-wire without tension band in the treatment of olecranon fractures in children is safe and effective,and has advantages in reducing surgical injuries.
