Survey of prevalence and Cognition of metabolic syndrome among bus drivers in Jiangmen city

Objective To investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MS)and the cognition of disease among bus drivers in Jiangmen.Methods From March 2015 to December 2016,310 cases of bus driver in Jiangmen had the physical examination in our hospital were selected as the research objects.According to the results of the examination,the prevalence of MS was analyzed,and the questionnaire was used to investigate the cognition status of MS disease.Results Among the 310 bus drivers,76 cases were diagnosed with MS.The prevalence rate was 24.51%,with the highest detection rate of central obesity (26.45%).The prevalence of MS and its various components,such as central obesity,hyperglycemia,hypertension and TG abnormality were increased gradually with age (P<0.05).The cognition of MS among bus driver in Jiangmen city was generally low,only the understanding proportion of“hazards of high blood pressure and high blood sugar”was more than 30%,the understanding proportion of other items were all less than 30%.Conclusion The prevalence of MS among bus drivers in Jiangmen city is high,but the cognition of disease is generally low.Therefore,it is necessary to strengthen the health education of disease,improve the understanding of disease related knowledge and establish a healthy lifestyle so as to reduce the incidence of metabolic syndrome and related diseases.4.Medical Services Section,Wuyi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Jiangmen City,Guangdong Province,Jiangmen 529000,China
