Teaching reform practice in large classroom on college--Environment and Health course |

Abstract Objective To explore the teaching effects of volunteer students-based "Little Teacher Teaching Group" and to enhance the interactions between students and teachers in the classroom.Methods An integrated approach that combined the TBL,PBL,and “Sandwich” teaching was developed and practiced in the course of “Environment and Health” for 370 class 1-4 students from September 2014 to July 2015.The teaching results were collected via questionnaire at two time points:Before the start of the course and at the end of the course.Data were analyzed using SPSS,confirmed the advantages and feasibility of this teaching approach.Results After learning from the new teaching model,the volunteer student group displayed increased awareness of what′s the health and sub-health condition and showed more concern on environmental pollution.In examination on the knowledge about human health and four different sources of pollution including indoor air,outdoor air,water and soil,their correct answer rate was significantly increased after taking the class (P<0.001).Conclusion The results showed that this new teaching model not only increased the learning enthusiasm of the students in the large class as well as in pre-class preparation,but also significantly improved the students′abilities in analyzing and solving problems,learning new knowledges in related fields,and broadening their view sights.
