Abstract Objective To explore the clinical efficacy and impact on cognitive function of patients with bipolar disorder(BD)manic episodes treated with non convulsive electroconvulsive therapy(MECT)combined with sodium valproate. Methods A total of 80 patients with BD manic episodes admitted to Tongling Third People's Hospital from January 2020 to June 2023 were selected as the study objects and they were divided into observation group(40 cases)and control group(40 cases)according to random number table method. The control group was treated with sodium valproate sustained-release tablets, while the observation group was treated with MECT combined with sodium valproate. The clinical efficacy, manic symptoms, mental state, lipid level, and adverse reactions between two groups were compared. Results The total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group, and the Bech Rafaelsen mania scale (BRMS)and brief psychiatric scale (BPRS) scores after treatment were lower than those of the control group, and the mini mental state examination(MMSE)scores and Wisconsin card sorting test (WCST)scores after treatment were higher than those of the control group, with statistical differences (P<0.05).There were no statistically significant differences in blood lipid level and incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups after treatment(P>0.05).Conclusion The combination of MECT and sodium valproate in the treatment of BD manic episodes can alleviate the psychological symptoms and manic episodes of patients, promote cognitive function improvement, and there is no increase in adverse reactions.
