Abstract Since the introduction of the holistic nursing concept in China, psychological nursing,as part of the nursing process, has been increasingly valued. It has made certain progress in clinical practice, academic research, and theoretical construction. The government has also specifically approved the establishment of National Centers for Mental Health. The public, especially patients, have an increasing demand for psychological nursing. However,in the training of nursing professionals at the university level, there is a lack of investment in psychological nursing education,a disconnect between teaching content and clinical practice, and the quality of psychological nursing training conducted in hospitals is not high, leading to a significant supply-demand contradiction. Therefore, setting up a psychological nursing direction in the nursing programs of some medical colleges and universities is beneficial. It can shorten the training time for student nurses in psychological care after entering clinical practice, improve the quality of psychological nursing, and align with the trend of nursing education reform and development in the new era. This paper suggests adopting a talent training model for psychological nursing oriented towards societal needs;setting up a professional curriculum system centered on job competency;and aiming to ensure teaching quality by building a team of both full-time and part-time teachers. The goal is to provide an approach for the training of psychological nursing talents in universities and offer a valuable exploration for the country to improve nursing quality and build a social psychological service system.
