Abstract Objective To investigate the current condition of occupational burnout and stress among psychiatric clinical nurses.Methods A total of 101 nurses working in the psychiatric departments of 3 Shanghai Psychiatric hospitals (Qingpu District Mental Health Center,Minhang Hospital District of Shanghai Mental Health Center,and Shanghai Civil Affairs First Mental Health Center)from June to December 2021 were selected as the observation group.A total of 100 nurses working in 3 general hospitals (Qingpu Branch of Zhongshan Hospital,Zhujiajiao People's Hospital,Hongqiao Hospital District of Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University) were selected as the control group.General situation questionnaire,Chinese nurses job stressor scale,Maslach burnout scale,generalized anxiety disorder-7 (GAD-7),and patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9)were used to investigate the two groups of nurses.Results The scores of nurses in the observation group were lower than those in the control group on emotional exhaustion and depersonalization,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the score of low achievement between the two groups(P >0.05).The score of nurses in the observation group was higher than that in the control group in term of working environment and resources,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in the scores of workload and time allocation,nursing specialty and work,patient care,management and interpersonal relationship between the two groups (P>0.05).Occupational stress was correlated with all dimensions of job burnout (P<0.05).There was no significant difference in GAD-7 scores between the two groups (P>0.05).The PHQ-9 score of nurses in the observation group was lower than that in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Anxiety and depression were found in more than half of the nurses in both groups.Conclusion Psychiatric nurses have significant occupational burnout and stress.The administration of hospital should take active intervention to promote their physical and mental health.
