Effect of case teaching method in internal medicine teaching |

Abstract Objective To explore the effect of case teaching method in science teaching. Methods Eighty students from two classes of clinical medicine major in Guizhou Medical University were selected as the research objects, and divided into control group (n=40) and observation group (n=40) by class grouping. The control group used conventional teaching method, and the observation group used case teaching method. The scores of teaching effect evaluation, teaching quality evaluation, degree of knowledge mastery of internal medicine theory and case analysis ability before and after teaching were compared between the two groups, and students′ satisfaction with teaching methods was evaluated by self-made satisfaction scale. Results The scores of communication ability, learning enthusiasm, teamwork, matters for attention and copywriting in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The scores of teacher attitude, teaching ability, communication between teachers and students, content mastery and overall evaluation in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Before teaching, there were no significant differences in the scores of students′ mastery of internal medicine theoretical knowledge and case analysis ability between the two groups (P>0.05). After teaching, the scores of students′ mastery of internal medicine theoretical knowledge and case analysis ability in the two groups were higher before teaching, and the scores in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The observation group were more satisfied with case teaching method than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of case teaching method in internal science teaching can improve teaching quality and teaching effect, improve students′ theoretical knowledge mastery and case analysis ability, and students′ satisfaction with case teaching method is high, which is worth promoting.
