Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of self-made traditional Chinese medicine hot compress package on the occurrence of mechanical phlebitis in tumor patients after peripheral central venous catheterization (PICC). Methods A total of 112 patients with cancer undergoing PICC catheterization in Ganzhou Cancer Hospital of Jiangxi Province from January 2019 to December 2020 were selected as the study subjects, and they were divided into two groups according to random number table method, with 56 patients in each group. The control group was given routine nursing, and the observation group was given self-made traditional Chinese medicine hot compress package for 5 days, and followed up for 1 month. The occurrence of mechanical phlebitis, degree of pain, coagulation function and quality of life were compared between the two groups. Results The occurrence degree of mechanical phlebitis in observation group was lighter than that in control group, and the incidence of mechanical phlebitis in observation group (7.14%) was lower than that in control group, the difference was statistically significant (25.00%). The degree of pain in the observation group after intervention was lighter than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in coagulation function between the two groups before intervention (P>0.05). After the intervention, fibrinogen (FIB) in observation group was higher than that in the control group, prothrombin time (PT) and partial thromboplastin time (APTT) in observation group were longer than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the quality of life between the two groups before intervention (P>0.05). After one month of follow-up, the score of European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer quality of life questionnaire core 30 (EORTC-QLQ-C30) in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of self-made traditional Chinese medicine hot compress package in tumor PICC catheterization can reduce the occurrence of mechanical phlebitis, reduce the pain at the catheterization, improve the coagulation function and improve the quality of life of patients.
