Abstract Objective To explore the effect of total process management on the incidence of arrhythmia in patients with mental disorders undergoing modified electro-convulsive therapy (MECT). Methods Ninety patients with mental disorders underwent MECT in the Third People′s Hospital of Shangrao City from January to June 2021 were selected as research objects. They were divided into control group and observation group by random number table method, with 45 cases in each group. The control group received routine nursing intervention, and the observation group received total process management nursing intervention. The incidence of arrhythmia and adverse events, nursing cooperation and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups. Results There were no significant differences between the two groups in the incidence of single ventricular premature beat, bigeminy, trigeminy, ventricular tachycardia, QTc interval prolongation and cardiac arrest at 5, 10 and 30 min after treatment (P>0.05). The total incidence of adverse events such as prolonged apnoea time, dysmnesia, irritability, dizziness and discomfort, large-area rash in regiones pectoris anterior and excessive respiratory secretions in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Patients cooperating with nurses in the observation group were more than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Treatment time and waiting time in the observation group were shorter than those in the control group, the number of times of risk events in the observation group was less than that in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The nursing satisfaction in the observation group was higher than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Total process management can effectively reduce the incidence rates of arrhythmia and adverse events in patients with mental disorders during MECT, and improve their nursing cooperation and nursing satisfaction.
