Research of effect of palmar approach percutaneous cannulated screw fixation on scaphoid fractures |

Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of palmar approach percutaneous cannulated screw fixation for the treatment of scaphoid fractures. Methods A total of 76 patients with scaphoid fracture admitted to Guangdong Armed Police Corps Hospital from June 2018 to June 2020 were retrospectively selected as the study subjects. They were divided into control group (n=38) and study group (n=38) by the method of difference in surgical plan. The control group was treated with dorsal approach while the study group was treated with palmar approach. The efficacy, pain degree, clinical indicators and wrist function of the two groups were compared. Results The excellent and good rate of the study group was higher than that of the control group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the pain score between the two groups before operation (P>0.05). The pain score of the control group at 3 and 6 months after operation were lower than those of study group, with statistical significances (P<0.05). The intraoperative blood loss and fracture healing time in the study group were less than those in the control group, with statistical significances (P<0.05). There were no significant differences between the two groups in the preoperative wrist self questionnaire (PRWE) score and Mayo wrist score (P>0.05). The PRWE score of the study group at 6 months after operation was lower than that of the control group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). The Mayo wrist score in the study group 6 months after operation was higher than that in the control group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusion The treatment of scaphoid fracture through palmar approach with percutaneous cannulated screw fixation can improve the curative effect and function of wrist joint, reduce postoperative pain, promote healing, and is worthy of application.
