Abstract Objective To analyze the mediating effect of psychological stress and resilience between sleep quality and work stress of officers and soldiers performing major tasks. Methods From March 2019 to August 2021, 245 army officers and soldiers engaged in major tasks were selected as the research subjects. The perceived stress scale (PSS), psychological stress evaluating test (PSET), Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and Connor-Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC) were used. Pearson correlation model was used to analyze the correlation between mental stress and resilience on sleep quality and work stress of soldiers performing major tasks, and structural equation model was used to analyze the mediating effect between mental stress and resilience on sleep quality and work stress of soldiers performing major tasks. Results A total of 245 questionnaires were distributed, each including 4 scales, 13 invalid questionnaires were removed, and 232 valid questionnaires were finally collected. The total score of PSS was (28.17±6.27) points in 232 valid questionnaires. The total score of PSET scale was (25.34±2.64) points. The total score of PSQI scale was (15.44±1.60) points. The total score of CD-RISC was (75.67±8.67) points. Sleep quality was positively correlated with work stress (r=0.864, P<0.001). Work stress was positively correlated with psychological stress (r=0.933, P<0.001). Sleep quality was negatively correlated with psychological resilience (r=-0.834, P<0.001). Psychological stress was negatively correlated with psychological resilience (r=-0.864, P<0.001). Psychological resilience was negatively correlated with work stress (r=-0.813, P<0.001). Sleep quality was positively correlated with psychological stress (r=0.929, P<0.001). Psychological stress and resilience accounted for 78.09% of the total effect as mediating effect. Conclusion There is a significant correlation between psychological stress, psychological resilience and sleep quality and work stress. As mediating variables, psychological stress and psychological resilience can adjust the predictive effect of work pressure on sleep quality for officers and soldiers performing major tasks. Psychological stress and resilience, reduce work stress and improve sleep quality.
