Abstract Objective To examine the application effect of atomizing inhalation of 3% Hypertonic Saline (HS) in children with moderate bronchiolitis. Methods A total of 72 children with moderate bronchiolitis who were hospitalized in the Department of Pediatrics of Maternal and Child Health Centre of Wuming District from July 2018 to October 2020 were selected as research objects. They were divided into 3% HS group and noral saline (NS) group according to random number table method, with 36 cases in each group. 3% HS 2 ml was used in 3%HS group and NS 2 ml was used in NS group. The clinical severity scores (CSS) and length of hospital stay in the pre-treatment phase, 24, 48, 72 h after treatment and at discharge of two groups were compared, and the adverse effect were observed. Results There were no significant differences in CSS between two groups at 24, 48, 72 h after treatment and at discharge (P>0.05).The CSS in the pre-treatment phase 24, 48, 72 h after treatment and at discharge were significantly decreased over time in 3% HS group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The CSS in the pre-treatment phase, 24,48, 72 h after treatment and at discharge were significantly decreased over time in NS group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in length of hospital stay between groups (P>0.05). No adverse reaction occured in both groups. Conclusion Compared with NS, 3% HS combined with Budesonide, Salbutamol and Ipratropium Bromide Atomized Inhalation in the treatment of moderate bronchiolitis did not significantly reduce the CSS and shorten the length of hospital stay, requiring further study with HS alone.
