Influence of different dyeing time on penetration depth of zirconia ceramics |

Abstract Objective To investigate the influence of different dyeing time on the penetration depth of zirconia ceramics. Methods A total of 27 pre-sintered or pre-sintered zirconia specimens were obtained by 3Shape software CAD/CAM. According to the dyeing time, they were divided into 9 groups of 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60, 120, 180, 240 s, with 3 specimens in each group. One 10 mm×10 mm surface of the test piece was exposed, and the other five surfaces were sealed with nail polish, immersed in A2 special dyeing solution for dyeing, cleaned, sintered, and cooled for later use.The dye penetration depth, specimen color and specimen surface elements were compared. Results As the staining time of the specimen was extended, the penetration depth gradually deepened, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). As the staining time of the specimen was prolonged, the L* value gradually decreased, and the a* and b*values gradually increased, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The ΔE values of the specimens immersed for 30-120 s were in the range of 0.0-1.5 NBS, indicated that they matched the color of A2 colorimetric plate.EDS analysis showed that only metal elements unique to O and Zr zirconia ceramics and C elements were found in the cross section of the specimen, and no oxide colorant elements were found. Conclusion The immersion dyeing time will affect the surface color characteristics and dye penetration depth of zirconia ceramics after sintering.
