Application of blood glucose management team and hospital-level blood glucose management system in orthopedic perioperative period |

Abstract Objective To explore the application of blood glucose management team and hospital-level blood glucose management system in the perioperative period of orthopedics. Methods A total of 68 patients with fracture or joint replacement undergoing elective surgery for diabetes mellitus were selected in Department of Endocrinology, Pingxiang People′s Hospital from June 2017 to June 2020. Thirty-four patients treated before the establishment of blood glucose management team (June 2017 to December 2018) were set as the control group, thirty-four patients treated after the establishment of blood glucose management team (January 2019 to June 2020) were set as the observation group. Patients in the control group received routine blood glucose detection, and patients in the observation group received combined blood glucose detection by blood glucose management team and hospital-level blood glucose management system. Patients in both groups were followed up for 3 months after discharge. The acceptance of health education on blood glucose management knowledge, the passing of blood glucose management knowledge questionnaire, the incidence of hypoglycemia and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups. Results The acceptance rate of health education on blood glucose management knowledge, the passing rate of blood glucose management knowledge questionnaire and nursing satisfaction in the observation group were higher than those in the control group; the incidence of hypoglycemia in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion The blood glucose management team and the hospital level blood glucose management system can effectively reduce the incidence of hypoglycemia in patients with fracture or joint replacement undergoing elective surgery for diabetes mellitus, and increase their acceptance and understanding of diabetes related knowledge, and improve their satisfaction with nursing.
