Abstract Objective To evaluate the effect of cooperative learning combined with problem-based learning(PBL)teaching model in the internship teaching in the department of gastrointestinal surgery. Methods Altogether 97 clinical undergraduates who were interned in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from September 2020 to January 2021 were selected as subjects.According to the simple randomization method, they were divided into experimental group (using cooperative learning combined with PBL teaching,49 students)and control group (using conventional teaching mode,48 students). The test scores and teaching effect of the two groups were compared. Results The test results of theoretical knowledge and clinical case analysis ability of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Students in the experimental group had better feedback on teachers′teaching ability, curriculum content and arrangement, theoretical knowledge mastery, clinical thinking cultivation, stimulating learning interest, cultivation of independent learning ability, teamwork awareness and improvement of communication ability with patients than those in the control group, with statistical significances(P<0.05).Conclusion Cooperative learning combined with PBL teaching mode can improve the internship effect of gastrointestinal surgery for medical students, and is recognized by the students.
