Effect of insulin pump combined with flash glucose monitoring system in diabetic patients |

Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of insulin pump combined with flash glucose monitoring system (FGM)in diabetic patients. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 117 diabetic patients admitted to the Dalian Central Hospital, Dalian Medical University from October 2019 to June 2021, and they were divided into observation group (n=58) and control group (n=59) according to the intervention methods. The control group was treated with insulin pump, and the observation group was treated with FGM. Fasting blood glucose (FPG) and 2 h postprandial blood glucose (2 h PG) were compared between the two groups at admission, before discharge and 3 months after discharge. Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein(LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) were compared between the two groups at admission and 3 months after discharge. The incidence of hypoglycemic events, times of blood glucose measurement, time of blood glucose standard and length of hospital stay were compared between the two groups. Results There were no significant differences in FPG and 2 h PG between the two groups at admission (P>0.05). FPG and 2 h PG before and 3 months after discharge in both groups were lower than those at admission, and FPG and 2 h PG in observation group were lower than those in control group 3 months after discharge, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in HbA1c and blood lipid indexes between the two groups on admission (P>0.05). 3 months after discharge,HbA1c, TG, TC and LDL in both groups were lower than those in admission, and HbA1c, TG and LDL in observation group were lower than those in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in TC and HDL between the two groups 3 months after discharge (P>0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of hypoglycemic events between the two groups (P>0.05). The time of blood glucose reaching standard in the observation group was longer than that in the control group, and the times of daily blood glucose measurement was less than that of control group, and hospital stay was shorter than that in the control group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusions Compared with patients wearing insulin pump alone, patients with insulin pump combined with FGM had shorter average length of hospital stay, less pain, improved biochemical indicators after discharge, improved patient compliance, return visit rate and attention, and more helpful for disease control.
