A case of intractable hiccup after stroke treated by Acupuncture

Abstract:Hiccup,western medicine called"diaphragmatic spasm",when sustained attack>72 h,the conventional treatment method is ineffective,it is called intractable hiccup.The basic pathogenesis of the disease is that the stomach fails to descend,qi activities in diaphragm is inhibited,and stomach qi rise adversely to disturb the diaphragm.The principle of treatment is relaxing chest and diaphragm,directing qi downward and check hiccups.In clinical treatment of a patient with intractable hiccups after stroke,the author practiced acupuncture on RN 17(dàn zhōng)and RN 12(zhōng wǎn)to regulate qi movement and direct the stomach qi downward,which turned out to be very effective.
