Objective To explore the application effect of Newman system nursing combined with mirror therapy in patients undergoing radical mastectomy. Methods A total of 68 breast cancer patients from General Hospital of Pingxiang Mining Group Co.,LTD.from March 2020 to March 2022 were selected as the subjects. They were divided into control group and observation group by random number table method, with 34 cases in each group. The control group was given routine nursing, and the observation group received Newman system nursing combined with mirror therapy on the basis of the control group. Both groups continued to intervene for 4 weeks. The shoulder range of motion, perceived pressure level, pain, quality of life and complications were compared between the two groups. Results After intervention, the range of motion of the shoulder joint in the observation group was (144.95±8.67)° in forward flexion,(70.39±3.59)° in abduction,(26.92±2.43)° in adduction, and (26.92±2.43)° in extension, the degree of activity was (37.98±3.12)°,which were higher than (132.86±8.45),(65.13±3.40),(20.28±2.32),(34.39±3.02)° of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).After intervention, the Chinese perceived stress scale (CPSS) score of the observation group was (32.37±2.11),and the numerical rating scale (NRS) score was (2.19±0.26),which were lower than(40.18±2.25),(4.36±0.52) points of the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).After the intervention, the European Organization for research and treatment of cancer QLQ-C30 (EORTCQLQ-C30) score of the observation group was (79.96±5.48) points, which was higher than (72.28±6.38) points of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).The total incidence of complications in the observation group was 5.88%,which was lower than 23.53% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion Newman system nursing combined with mirror therapy can improve the range of motion of shoulder, reduce the level of perceived stress and pain, reduce the incidence of complications, and improve the quality of life in patients undergoing radical mastectomy.
