Effectiveness and safety of nasal endoscopic sinus surgery combined with low-temperature plasma turbinate radiofrequency ablation in the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis

Abstract: Objective To investigate the effectiveness and safety of nasal endoscopic sinus surgery combined with lowtemperature plasma turbinate radiofrequency ablation in the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis.Methods A total of 816 patients with chronic rhinosinusitis who were treated in Bincheng Municipai Hospital of Binzhou City from April 2004 to April 2019 were selected as the research objects,and they were divided into two groups by the random number table method,namely the observation group (n=408) and the control group (n=408).The control group was treated with nasal endoscopic sinus surgery and inferior turbinoplasty (inferior turbinate osteotomy,inferior turbinate submucosal resection),and the observation group was treated with nasal endoscopic sinus surgery and low-temperature plasma turbinate radiofrequency ablation.The treatment effect,Lund-Kennedy score,nasal resistance,sino-nasal outcome test-20(SNOT-20) score and olfactory function changes and the incidence of complications were compared between the two groups.Results The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was 95.10%,which was higher than 75.98% in the control group,the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Before treatment,there were no significant differences in nasal resistance,SNOT-20 score,Lund-Kennedy score,and olfactory function between the two groups (P >0.05).The nasal resistance,SNOT-20 scores,and Lund-Kennedy scores of the two groups after treatment were lower than those before treatment,and the olfactory function was better than that before treatment,the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).The nasal resistance,SNOT-20 scores,and Lund-Kennedy scores of the observation group after treatment were lower than those of the control group,and the olfactory function was better than that of the control group,the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).The total incidence rate of complications in the observation group was 4.66%,which was lower than 17.40% in the control group,the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion Nasal endoscopic sinus surgery combined with low-temperature plasma turbinate radiofrequency ablation has a significant effect in the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis,and can significantly improve the nasal ventilation and olfactory function of the patients,the safety is high,which is worthy of clinical promotion.
