Investigation on quality of life of patients with advanced schistosomiasis in Chaisang District of Jiujiang City and analysis of its influencing factors

Objective To evaluate the quality of life of patients with advanced schistosomiasis in the Chaisang District and to analyze the influencing factors, so as to provide a basis for improving the quality of life of patients with advanced schistosomiasis. Methods A total of 216 patients with advanced schistosomiasis who were hospitalized in the Department of Diagnosis and Treatment of Schistosomiasis Clinic of the Chaisan District Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Jiujiang City from January 2020 to June 2021 were selected as the case group, and 216 healthy residents without schistosomiasis at the same time were selected as the control group. The World Health Organization quality of life assessment instrument brief version (WHOQOL-BREF) was used to investigate the factors influencing the survival quality of patients with advanced schistosomiasis by comparing the two groups. Results The quality of life and health status of the case group were worse than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The scores of physiological and psychological fields in the case group were lower than those in the control group,and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05), while there were no significant differences in the scores of social relations and environment between the two groups (P>0.05). The results of univariate analysis suggested that there were significant differences in the comprehensive level hierarchical composition of quality of life between advanced schistosomiasis patients with different sleep quality, marital status, number of exercise activities in weeks, presence or absence of comorbidities, per capita household income, dietary status, and family discordance advanced schistosomiasis(P<0.05). The results of multivariate analysis suggested that age (β=-1.605, OR=0.201, 95%CI=0.096-0.422), sleep quality (β=1.169, OR=3.220, 95%CI=1.459-7.104), number of exercise activities per week (≥30 min/session) (β=1.563, OR=4.772, 95%CI=2.275-10.010), per capita household income (β=0.994, OR=2.702, 95%CI=1.350-5.406), with or without comorbidities (β=-0.737, OR=0.478, 95%CI=0.235-0.973), appetite (β=0.947, OR=2.578, 95%CI=1.284-5.177) and family discordance (β=-1.019, OR=0.361,95%CI=0.177-0.737) were found to affect the quality of life of patients with advanced schistosomiasis (P<0.05). Conclusion The quality of life of patients with advanced schistosomiasis is lower than that of healthy residents without schistosomiasis, and age, sleep quality, number of exercise activities in weeks, monthly household income, presence or absence of comorbidities, appetite and family discordance are the main factors influencing the quality of life of patients with advanced schistosomiasis.
