Abstract: Objective To investigate the need of postoperative continuous nursing in patients undergoing day surgery for colonic polyps, and to provide basis for future health education and follow-up after discharge. Methods A total of 130 patients who underwent day surgery for colonic polyps in the second ward of department of Gastroenterology, the Affiliated Hospital of Binzhou Medical College from January 1 to December 31, 2020 were selected as the research objects. A self-made questionnaire was used to investigate the continuous nursing needs of patients undergoing day surgery for colonic polyps, and the results were statistically analyzed. Results Patients with day operation for colonic polyps had a high need for continuous nursing after operation, accounting for 85.71%. The evaluation of patients′ needs for continuous nursing of colonic polyps during day surgery was related to occupation, residence style and age, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The top three requirements for postoperative continuous nursing of patients undergoing day surgery for colonic polyps were observation and nursing guidance for postoperative complications,dietary guidance for postoperatively, and postoperative healthy lifestyle guidance. There were various ways for patients to obtain health education, but the main ones were to establish health education network platforms (establishing wechat groups or public accounts, etc.) and to provide discharge health guidelines. Conclusion Colonic polyps ambulatory surgery patients with a high demand for health education after surgery, clinical medical staff should take targeted measures according to the characteristics of day surgery, the content of patients′ needs, the ways patients want to obtain their needs and so on, provide high quality nursing and health guidance to the patients, reduce complications, ensure the safety of patients and promote their early recovery.
