Application of invisible orthodontic technique without bracket and straight wire fixed appliance in orthodontic patients and its effect on periodontal health

Abstract：Objective To investigate the effect of invisible orthodontic technique without bracket and straight wire fixed appliance in orthodontic patients.Methods The clinical data of 92 orthodontic patients treated in the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Jiujiang University from May 2019 to may 2020 were analyzed retrospectively.They were divided into control group(46 cases)and observation group(46 cases)according to different correction methods.The control group was treated with straight wire arch fixed appliance,and the observation group was treated with invisible orthodontic technique without bracket until 6 months after treatment.The improvement of teeth,periodontal health,masticatory function,quality of life and complications were compared between the two groups.Results The observation group had shorter treatment time than the control group,the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).There was no significant difference in periodontal health between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05).The plaque index (PLI),gingival sulcus probing depth (SPD),gingival index (GI) and gingival sulcus bleeding index (SBI) after treatment were higher than those before treatment,the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).After treatment,PLI,SPD,GI and SBI in the observation group were lower than those in the control group,the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).There were no significant difference in masticatory function and quality of life between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05).The masticatory efficiency,bite force and OHIP scores of the two groups after treatment were higher than those before treatment,the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).The masticatory efficiency,bite force and OHIP score of the observation group were higher than those of the control group,the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).The incidence of complications in the observation group was lower than that in the control group,the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion Invisible orthodontic treatment without brackets can shorten the correction time of inclined teeth and transposed teeth,reduce the damage to periodontal tissue,promote the recovery of masticatory function,reduce the impact of oral problems on quality of life,and have fewer complications.
