Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between 13C-urea breath test (UBT) value and severity of gastric antral mucosal lesions. Methods A total of 103 cases inpatients who underwent the 13C-UBT and gastric tissue biopsy within a week in Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 1,2017 to December 31, 2018 were included in the study. The severity of antral mucosal lesions was graded pathologically, and the correlation between 13C-UBT values and the five different histopathological grades was analyzed. Results The quantitative value of the 13C-UBT was positively correlated with the number of Helicobacter pylori (Hp), the degree of chronic inflammation of the gastric antral mucosa, and the activity of the gastric antrum (r=0.257, 0.229, 0.238, P<0.05), but was not related to the degree of antral atrophy and intestinal metaplasia (P>0.05). Conclusion Clinically, the quantitative value of the non-invasive 13C-UBT can be used to predict the number of Hp in the stomach and the degree of gastritis to guide clinical diagnosis and treatment.
