Abstract:Objective To investigate the changes of pulmonary function in different ages of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)after smoking cessation. Methods The clinical data of 60 patients with COPD admitted to our hospital from February 2018 to February 2019 were retrospectively collected. All patients were divided into three groups according to the age of patients,18-38 years old was taken as youth group,>38-59 years old was taken as middle-aged group,and>59 years old was taken as senile group,20 cases in each group. All selected cases were given smoking cessation intervention, and the pulmonary function (slow vital capacity [SVC],forced vital capacity of percentage prediction [FVC%Pred],forced expiratory volume in one second of percentage prediction [FEV 1%Pred],forced expiratory volume in one second/forced vital capacity[FEV1/FVC%])and quality of life(nottingham health profile[NHP])were compared among the three groups before and after smoking cessation. Results After smoking cessation for 12 months, the levels of pulmonary function indexes such as SVC,FVC%Pred,FEV1%Pred and FEV1/FVC in the three groups were higher than those before smoking cessation, and youth group was higher than middle-aged group and senile group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The NHPscore of youth group was higher than that of middle-aged group and senile group, and middle-aged group was higher than that of the senile group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Smoking cessation intervention for different ages of patients with COPD has certain effect,it can improve pulmonary function, prevent and control the diseases. At the same time, patients should be encouraged to early quit smoking to effectively improve their quality of life.
