The experimental research on short stature is insufficient, and the standardized animal model has not been structured yet.At present, intrauterine growth retardation model is used instead. As a common method to establish intrauterine growth retardation model, smoking conditions are different. The experimental conditions of intrauterine growth retardation caused by smoking, such as the concentration of smoke, the volume of smoke box,the duration of smoking in pregnant rats, and the smoking cycle, lack of unified standards. In order to establish a simple, economical and repeatable short stature animal model,we searched Chinese BioMedical Literature Database(CBM),CNKI,Vip,Wanfang data and PubMed database to prepare the literature of intrauterine growth retardation by smoking, sorted out the data, summarized the establishment method of intrauterine growth retardation model in rats caused by smoking, collected data and briefly summarized and analyzed them.It is considered that the success rate of building intrauterine growth retardation by smoking is high, and some fetal rats are consistent with the diagnosis of short stature. At present, the proper size of the exposure box is 0.3-0.6 m3,and the concentration of CO,CO2 and total suspended particulates(TSPs)needs to be monitored. This article reviews the research progress in establishing intrauterine growth retardation animal models by smoking to simulate animal model of short stature.
