Application of Tibetan Monascus in patients with intima media thickening and its effects on blood lipid,carotid intima media thickness and plaque

Abstract：Objective To investigate the application of Tibetan Monascus in patients with intima-media thickening and its effects on blood lipids,carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT)and plaque.Methods Sixty patients diagnosed with carotid intima-media thickening in Chancheng District People's Hospital of Foshan city,Guangdong Province from December 2019 to June 2021 were divided into control group (n=30)and observation group (n=30)by random number table method.The observation group was treated with Tibetan Monascus for 6 months,while the control group was treated with Atorvastatin Calcium Tablets for 6 months.The changes of blood lipid,CIMT and plaque were compared between the two groups before and after treatment.Results The total cholesterol,low density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglyceride in the two groups after treatment were lower than those before treatment,and the differences were statistically significant (P＜0.05).There were no significant differences in total cholesterol,low density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglyceride between the two groups before and after treatment (P＞0.05).There were no significant differences in carotid intima-media thickness and plaque area between the two groups before and after treatment (P＞0.05).There were no significant differences in carotid intima-media thickness and plaque area between the two groups (P＞0.05).Conclusion Tibetan Monascus can effectively reduce TC,LDL-C and TG of patients,and prevent the thickening of carotid intima media and the increase of plaque area,which provides clinical evidence for further study of Tibetan Monascus.
