Abstract：Paraduodenal pancreatitis (PP) is a rare type of focal chronic pancreatitis located in the groove area between dorsal pancreatic head and duodenum.The mechanisms of PP involve the obstruction of the accessory pancreatic duct and pseudocyst formation.Alcohol,cigarettes and ectopic pancreas in the duodenum are the causes of PP.The main symptoms include abdominal pain,nausea and vomit.Radiological findings as duodenal wall thickening,disappearance of accessory pancreatic duct and pseudocyst indicate PP.Meanwhile,differential diagnosis with malignant diseases in pancreatic head,bile duct and duodenum is challenging and very important.Improving the understanding and diagnosis of PP helps to reduce unnecessary operations.Few cases and researches of PP are reported worldwide.This article reports one case of PP diagnosed in the Department of Gastroenterology in the First Hospital of Tsinghua University,characterized by duodenal ulcer with bleeding,obstruction and ascites.A review of literature is also provided in this article.
