Objective To explore the application effect of group intervention in patients with gastrointestinal cancer after surgery. Methods Seventy-six patients with gastrointestinal cancer after surgery in the Jiangxi Cancer Hospital from May 2020 to April 2021 were selected as the study subjects by convenience sampling method.According to the ward, the patients were divided into control group (38 cases) and experimental group (38 cases). One patient in the control group was absent from the training course, one patient in the experimental group was absent from the training course, and one patient was transferred to the hospital resulting in shedding. Finally, there were 37 patients in the control group and 36 patients in the experimental group. The control group was given traditional health guidance mode, and the experimental group was given group intervention mode for health guidance. The scores of readinessfor hospital discharge scale (RHDS) and Barthel scale were compared between the two groups 1 day after surgery (T0), 1 week after surgery (T1), and before discharge (T2). Results There was no significant difference in the RHDS score between the two groups at T0 (P>0.05).The RHDS score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group at T1 and T2, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the Barthel scale scores between the two groups at T0 (P>0.05).The Barthel scale scores in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group at T1 and T2, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Compared with the traditional health education model, group intervention can more effectively improve the discharge readiness and self-care ability of patients after gastrointestinal cancer surgery.
