Clinical significance of changes of serum procalcitonin and C-reactive protein levels in patients after percutaneous nephrolithotomy for early diagnosis of systemic inflammatory response syndrome

Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical significance of changes in serum procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in the early diagnosis of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in patients after percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Methods A total of 40 patients with SIRS after percutaneous nephrolithotomy in Xinyu People′s Hospital from February 2018 to February 2020 were retrospectively selected as the observation group, and 40 patients who had not undergone percutaneous nephrolithotomy during the same period were selected as the control group. The data of patients with SIRS were included in the control group. All patients were tested for serum PCT and CRP levels at 24 h before surgery, 2 h after surgery and 24 h after surgery. Serum PCT and CRP levels were compared between the two groups, the value of serum PCT and CRP levels in the early diagnosis of SIRS after percutaneous nephrolithotomy were analyzed. Results Twenty four hours after operation, the serum PCT and CRP levels of the two groups were higher than those at 24 h before operation and 2 h after operation, the serum PCT and CRP levels of the two groups at 2 h after operation were higher than those at 24 h before operation, the serum PCT and CRP levels in the observation group at 2 and 24 h after operation were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The area under the curve values of serum PCT and CRP levels and combined detection were 0.849, 0.826, 0.861, respectively. Conclusion The detection of serum PCT and CRP levels has a high application value in the early diagnosis of SIRS in patients after percutaneous nephrolithotomy, the higher the serum PCT and CRP levels, the greater the risk of SIRS after surgery.
