Abstract:Ulcerative colitis (UC),as a refractory straight colon non-specific inflammatory bowel disease, has been listed by WHO as one of the modern refractory diseases, which seriously affects the normal life of patients. At present, there is no clear cure for Western medicine, and Chinese medicine has unique advantages in regulating immune function, repairing intestinal mucosa, and alleviating intestinal inflammation. This article discusses the research progress of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of UC from the aspects of etiology and pathogenesis, special prescription, traditional Chinese medicine, classification and treatment, acupuncture therapy, traditional Chinese medicine enema, acupoint embedding, traditional Chinese medicine foot bath, etc, and it was found that the mechanism of certain Chinese medicines for the treatment of UC may be to improve the immune function by regulating the balance of T lymphocyte subsets, adjust the level of brain-gut peptides to repair the gastrointestinal mucosa, inhibit tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin (IL)-1,IL-6,IL-8,prostaglandin E2 (PGE2),Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) mRNA and TLR2 protein expression, reduce antineutrophil cytoplasmic Antibody (ANCA) content,Smad7 expression level and relieve intestinal inflammation, acupuncture may reduce intestinal mucosal damage by inhibiting the reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidases (NOXs)-reactive oxygen species (ROS)-NOD-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3) inflammatory body signaling pathway, acupoint embedding may reduce intestinal inflammation by inhibiting the mRNA and protein expression of 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) and NF-κB065.Traditional Chinese medicine enema and traditional Chinese medicine foot bath also have a certain auxiliary treatment effect on UC.Therefore, traditional Chinese medicine treatment of UC can effectively relieve the clinical symptoms of patients and improve the clinical treatment effect, which is worthy of further application and promotion.
