Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of nursing intervention on the self-management ability of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) patients in primary hospitals. Methods A total of 40 patients who underwent PICC catheterization in our hospital from January to December 2018 and who were hospitalized for the first time were selected as intervention group. A total of 46 patients who underwent PICC catheterization in external hospital from January to December 2018 and who were hospitalized for the first time were selected as control group. The intervention group received systematic nursing intervention, the control group received health education from the hospital. Self management ability of PICC and incidence of catheter complications between the two groups were compared. Results The self-management ability of the intervention group was (152.11±4.51) points, higher than that of the control group of (125.48±6.61) points, and the scores of daily catheter observation, catheter maintenance compliance, catheter management confidence, abnormal situation handling, information acquisition, exercise with catheter, daily life with catheter were higher than those of the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The total incidence of catheter complication in the intervention group (5.00%), which was lower than that of the control group (19.57%), and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05. Conclusion Systematic nursing interventions have positive effect on improving the self-management ability of catheters in PICC patients and reducing the incidence of catheter complications.
