Abstract:Objective To analyze the characteristics of acute spinal cord injury in the urban-rural fringe of Guangzhou. Methods The clinical data of 62 patients with acute spinal cord injury in the urban-rural fringe of Guangzhou admitted to the Luogang Red Cross Hospital of Guangzhou and cooperative hospitals from September 2013 to September 2018 were retrospectively analyzed, which included gender, age, etiology, occupation, degree of injury, etc. The results were obtained from statistical analysis SPSS 13.0. Results The age of the patients was (36.01±4.36) years old, and the male to female ratio was 2.68∶1, and 51.61% of the injuries were caused by falling from high altitudes, followed by traffic accidents accounting for 35.48%. The most common injury site was the cervical spine, accounting for more than 45.00%.Migrant workers accounted for 50% of the patients. Conclusion The proportion of males with acute spinal cord injury in the urban-rural fringe of Guangzhou is relatively high and high-altitude falling and traffic accident injuries are the two main causes. Compared with the epidemiological survey data of spinal cord injury in other regions of our country, the average age of spinal cord injury patients is relatively low. Occupants with the highest number of spinal cord injury are migrant workers and local farmers. Acute spinal cord injury in the urban-rural fringe has unique epidemiological characteristics and problems, which differs from the central urban area. In order to improve treatment and prevention of spinal cord injury, this should be taken into consideration when making emergency strategies and policies.
